Educational Opportunities in Sept., Oct.

Here are a few upcoming classes that may be of interest to gardeners. Some have been mentioned in previous posts, some are new to the blog.

September 22: Welcome to Beekeeping 10-12 am

Geneva Green with the Orange County Bee Keeper Association will be giving a wonderful talk about how the relationship between bees and mankind is one of the longest in our history.  She will also talk about some of the rich history and we will learn about what makes bees so fascinating, as well as some of the basics of beekeeping. This class will be held at the Environmental Education Center at West Point on the Eno. There is a small fee.

September 30: Revitalizing Your Lawn this Fall,  2-4 pm

Fall is the perfect season to give your lawn some extra attention (and repair). Join us to learn more about re-seeding lawns, aeration, selecting the right turf grass for your yard and free soil testing to ensure you add the nutrients to help it your turf thrive. This class will be held at the Doris Duke Center at Sarah P. Duke Gardens. The class is free, but there is a parking fee. Registration is required. 919-668-1707

October 14: Planning a Cut Flower Garden, 2:30 – 3:30 pm

Few pleasures in life are so simple as surrounding yourself with
flowers — indoors and out. Especially when they come from
your own garden! Learn how easy it is to plan for, grow and
care for a cut-flower garden. This class will be held at the South Regional Library at 4505 South Alston Ave, Durham NC 27713 (FREE) to register call (919) 560-7409

October 16: Durham Garden Forum, Specimen Trees 6:30 – 8 pm

John Monroe of Architectural Trees is the speaker. $10 for the general public, free for Durham Garden Forum members.
