BONSAI: Create your own bonsai plant
Harold Johnson, Triangle Bonsai Society
Bonsai is a unique combination of art and science, resulting in a dwarfed plant that is carefully pruned and trained to suit your vision. Harold will discuss the different bonsai styles and traditions. Then you will learn to use those techniques and begin your own bonsai to continue to grow and enjoy at home. Plant, container, materials and soil medium supplied in class for a hardy, outdoor bonsai plant.

Niwaki Pruning Class: John Monroe of Architectural Trees offering a Niwaki pruning class Sunday November 18th from  1:30 to 4pm. Niwaki is an Asian pruning style that is similar to bonsai, but uses trees in the ground as the subject. The goal is to create the idealized ‘garden tree’. In this class, five students will explore their concept of what a tree looks like and after a short nature study, will work on their individual tree in a group setting.  The class fee includes a plant suitable for transformation which the student will take home with them. Class is held outdoors so dress appropriately. Bring a pair of by-pass pruners. Other tools will be available to use as well. To register call 919-620-0779. Payment is made in advance and is non-refundable unless the class is canceled. ( A substitute can attend though). Fee is $85. Four students will be needed to hold the class.
